‘Never believe in a standing ovation.’ this quote by Toots Thielemans has been stuck in Steven de Bruyn’s head for years. The fact that you have to win the crowd over again night after night, even after all your success. Even if you have played with El Fish, one of Belgiums best rootsbands ever. Or with The Rhythm Junks, one of the most bold music groups in the lowlands. Never. Believe.

The result of these thoughts has resulted in one of the strongest, most in depth albums from Steven de Bruyns carreer. His new record The Eternal Perhaps is cinematic, sometimes poetic but above all a musical story about the man Steven sees when he looks into the mirror every morning. The album could have been a soundtrack for a modern day film noir, about a man finding his way through life and the city. The Eternal Perhaps is a standing ovation for an incomprehensible instrument: the mouth harp.
