NCC Big Band on tour with Thierno Koite (Orchestra Baobab & Le Sahel)

2016 is an amazingly busy and creative year for New Cool Collective. The continuation of the Matt Bianco project (with shows in Japan and Indonesia), a Dutch theatre tour (more info soon) and the AMSTERDAM – DAKAR shows with Thierno Koite, the saxophonist of the legendary bands Orchestra Baobab and Le Sahel.

NCC met Thierno during a trip through Africa in 2013. Inspired by his unique sound, the band decided to name a song after Thierno which can be found on the Electric Monkey Sessions album. But it was still a dream to work with each other. Until now! Thierno is coming to Holland for a writing session and to record the new repertoire with the New Cool Collective Big Band. See the result of this special collaboration at the AMSTERDAM – DAKAR shows:

May 7 –  TivoliVredenburg, Utrecht
May 8 –  Paradiso, Amsterdam
May 12 – LantarenVenster, Rotterdam

Thierno Koite
Thierno’s unique sound is known as thé saxophone-sound of Senegal. Also outside Senegal Thierno is a well-respected name. He played with artists like Maceo Parker, Peewee Ellis and was part of the James Brown band during their tour through Senegal.
