Gregor Terror & The Calypso Gigolos, a six-man Antwerp combo featuring singer Gregor Terror Engelen (of Antwerp Gipsyska Orkestra, Ambrassband, Donkey Diesel fame), carry you off to the Caribbean: one of the few bands in Europe to play genuine calypso music, the sensual summer dance music of the South, live on stage. Alongside traditional calypso tunes, the band also play many self-penned compositions. Over the years, the sextet has developed a unique sound they call calypso/mambo noir.
Gregor Terror & The Calypso Gigolos recently appeared at Polé Polé in Ghent and have played at Openluchttheater Rivierenhof in Antwerp, Rotterdam Unlimited, Viva Lola in Sint-Niklaas and numerous festivals in Belgium, the Netherlands and France.
The Antwerp band launched in 2010 as a ten-piece combo committed to breathing new life into the old calypso hits. Gregor Terror & The Calypso Gigolos succeeded beyond expectation. Meanwhile, they also began to turn their hand to building up a repertoire of its own. In 2015, after the band parted ways with four of its members, the remainder continued as a six-man formation. This was when they began to focus on their own songs. The result was the first long-playing record on the French calypso label Kaiso Records, released in Belgium in early October this year. The album appears in France on 1 March 2019.
